MVCTC Adult Education Ohio Adult Diploma Program (QuickTurn) Graduates
Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center is proud to present the first graduates in the Ohio Adult Diploma Program. QuickTurn Ohio is a new educational initiative made possible through statewide funding that offers an alternative for adults age 22 and older to earn a high school diploma and receive an industry credential for an in-demand job upon successful completion of the program.
Students choose a career pathway through the QuickTurn program. This educational approach embeds academics, such as math, reading, and locating information skills into career-technical classes that lead each student to a credential in a chosen field. In the case of these six students, they have chosen to pursue the state certified Nursing Assistant program. Unlike in traditional classrooms, students show they have mastered their courses by passing a competency-based job skill test such as ACT’s WorkKeys, rather than a traditional test that reflects only academic knowledge.
Program participants also receive career guidance and the benefit of their schools’ connections with local industries. The program will connect students to Ohio’s already well-established career-technical education system. The ultimate goal for the students to find gainful employment to benefit themselves and their families. To date, all six QuickTurn graduates are employed in their chosen field.
The first graduates of the MVCTC Adult Education QuickTurn Program include:
- Ashley Jimenez- now employed as an STNA at Shiloh Springs Care Center
- Nichole Mathews- now employed as an STNA at Heartland of Centerville
- Michelle Profitt – now employed as a Patient Care Technician at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy
- Anastasia Young- now employed at Springhill Singing Woods as a Lead Caregiver, she will be starting Indiana Wesleyan for an Associate Degree in Business in March of 2016
For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio. MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
