Adult Education Short-Term Certificate Grant Program

Miami Valley CTC Adult Education Division is pleased to announce the opportunity for qualified students to be awarded a grant to complete the Nurse Aide Training program (STNA) . If awarded the grant, the cost to the student to complete the class would be under $100. Please click on the link below to complete your application.

Overview: The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) has awarded funds to Miami Valley Career Technology Adult Division (MVCTC-AE) to provide need-based financial aid for MVCTC-AE students who are enrolled in short-term training programs. These last-dollar grants are for programs that can be completed in less than one year (or fewer than 900 clock hours) and culminate in the student earning an industry-recognized credential, license, or a MVCTC-AE certificate of completion. Grant amounts may not exceed $2,000 per student per fiscal year. Grants may only be used to cover program tuition and fees and will be applied directly to the student’s account.

Eligibility: MVCTC-AE students who are enrolled in an approved short-term occupational training program (less than 900 clock hours) that has a start date between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022 (see list of eligible programs in the grant FAQ section).

Grants are need-based and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and while funding is available.

The student must also meet or agree to the following requirements:

The student has financial need and is currently unemployed or underemployed.
The student is a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
The student has a valid Social Security Number.
The student is actively enrolled in an eligible short-term training program with a start date between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022.
The grant is considered a “last-dollar grant” and may be applied to the student’s account only after other funding sources such as internal/external scholarships, OMJ, or other grants have been applied to the cost of the program.
The student understands that the MVCTC-AE training program has an attendance requirement and a passing grade requirement. Failure to maintain the attendance rate or the minimum grades throughout the program could result in a loss of grant support and the student will be financially responsible for the cost of the program.
The student must commit the necessary time and dedication to the program to successfully complete the program. The student must comply with the student code of conduct as stated in the MVCTC-AE Adult Student Handbook. Students who withdraw or fail to attend class may be financially responsible for the cost of the program.
The student understands that there may be a pre-requisite for program enrollment and registration must be completed by the deadline. Passing test scores are determined by the program curriculum and are identified on the Adult Education website.
In order for the student to be considered for an additional grant award, the student must have successfully completed the first funded course/module and earn the associated certificate and/or industry certification.

Which programs are eligible for the short-term certificate grant?

The following programs or courses within modules are eligible for funding:

How much is available for each class? Based on a first-come, first-served basis:

Nurse Aide (STNA) Training: A total of 14 grants of $575 will be awarded for the Nurse Aide Training (STNA) classes listed above. Students receiving the grant will be responsible for paying $75 out of pocket for the class.

Will I get a check?

No. The short-term certificate grant will be applied to student accounts. Funds will be applied directly to tuition, books, credentialing costs, and supply fees.

Do I have to claim these funds as income for my income taxes?

No. These funds are considered the same as a grant or scholarship, not income.

Will this money affect any other support I’m receiving from Job and Family Services, VA, or other agencies?

No. These funds are considered the same as a grant or scholarship, not income.
