Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES ACT) – Section 18004 Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) Reporting Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students

1. Miami Valley CTC signed and returned the CARES HEERF Certification & Agreement for Student’s Portion on May 14, 2020; and approval for the Grant award was received on May 21, 2020. In this agreement, MVCTC agreed to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
2. The total amount of funds available to MVCTC for distribution of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students is $122,366.
3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) is $110,000. Distributions occurred in May and June, 2020.
4. There are 122 students at MVCTC that were deemed eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
5. As of June 30, 2020; a total of 110 students received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. Attempts have been made to contact the remaining 12 eligible students and will continue until the funds have been disbursed.
6. The institution determined that all active students that were enrolled in a 600-hour or longer program as of the date of campus shutdown on March 16, 2020 due to coronavirus and were still in an active enrollment status as of April 9, 2020 were deemed eligible to receive the Emergency Financial Aid Grant for students. An additional requirement for eligibility was to have a properly completed and verified 2019-20 FAFSA. Students had to certify that they incurred expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus and will utilize the emergency grant relief funds to cover these associated costs. It was determined by school administration to divide the funds equally between all 122 eligible students with a maximum amount of $1000 per student. Students were required to complete a request form in order to receive the $1,000 maximum.
7. The 122 students that were eligible to receive the Emergency Financial Aid Grant were notified via personal email addresses of the benefit. All eligible students were mailed the request form and a business reply envelope with instructions to complete the form and return it to the school. By completing the request form the students were certifying that they incurred eligible expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus. Eligible expenses were explained to include food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care.
8. As of 11/18/2021, $642,726.90 HEERF III funds were distributed to 56 ($759.42 each) part-time MVCTC students and 239 ($2314.44 each) full-time MVCTC adult students.
