Short-Term Medical Programs
Nurse Aide (STNA) Training Program
If you want to get started in a healthcare career, the STNA Training Program is the place to start. Our knowledgeable and experienced instructors will help you to be prepared as a caring and compassionate care provider.
- 76 hours
- Approved by the Ohio Department of Health, this program prepares the student for state testing to function as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) in a variety of health care settings. 100% attendance is required.
- Pre-admission requirement: physical within the last year stating no lifting restrictions and a 2-step TB Skin Test. WorkKeys Assessment required.
- An STNA license allows you to get started in a healthcare career! Begin here and continue on to Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to a Registered Nurse (RN) to earning a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).
- According to Ohio Means Jobs, a Nurse Aide provides or assists with basic care or support under the direction of onsite licensed nursing staff. Perform duties such as monitoring of health status, feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, or ambulation of patients in a health or nursing facility. May include medication administration and other health-related tasks. Includes nursing care attendants, nursing assistants, nursing aides, and nursing attendants. Phlebotomy
This is a basic blood draw course. Students are required to have a total of 125 successful arm and hand venipunctures and 15 finger sticks. All blood draws are completed in the classroom/lab on the MVCTC campus utilizing plastic arms and progressing to drawing on classmates and volunteers brought in by the students.

- Topics include: routine phlebotomy, phlebotomy in the health care setting, special collection procedures, pediatric and infant phlebotomy, infection control and equipment safety.
- Students successfully completing this course will be eligible to take the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification exam. CPT online study guide and certification exam fees are included in tuition.
- Students must have access to a laptop or PC, with a minimum of Windows 7, to use the online study guide. * The number of blood draws and use of volunteers are subject to COVID-19 guidelines.
- According to Ohio Means Jobs, a Phlebotomist draws blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research. May explain the procedure to patients and assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions. In Ohio, this is an "InDemand Occupation" that will continue to grow over the next few years. Dental Assisting
156 hours
This course prepares students for a chair-side position in a dental office. The course introduces dental anatomy, terminology, dental specialties, chair-side assisting, laboratory procedures, infection control, sterilization procedures, dental instruments, and mixing dental materials. The course also offers a 7-hour initial training course for Dental Assistant Radiographer. This is the first step to obtaining a Dental Assistant Radiographer’s certificate in Ohio. A 24-hour unpaid internship is included in the program.
Short-Term Skilled Trades
Electrician Level 1
180 hours
Designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research, students will receive an introduction to the electrical industry. Class includes lab and lecture. Key content: Orientation to the Electrical Trade; Electrical Safety; Basic Electrical Construction Drawings; Test Equipment; Introduction to the National Electrical Code; Grounding and Bonding; Introduction to Conduit Bending; Conductors and Cable; Lighting; Circuit Breakers and Fuses.rade mathematics, basic electricity, introduction to heating, introduction to cooling, introduction to air distribution systems, basic copper and plastic piping practices, soldering and brazing, and basic carbon steel piping practices.
HVAC-R Level 1
180 hours
Students will receive an introduction to HVAC, trade mathematics, basic electricity, introduction to heating, introduction to cooling, introduction to air distribution systems, basic copper and plastic piping practices, soldering and brazing, and basic carbon steel piping practices.
Machine Shop 1 with Blueprint Reading and Math 1
162 hours
Learn to safely operate engine lathes, vertical mills, surface grinders, saws, and drill presses. Course includes 18 hours of Blueprint Reading and Math I.
Basic Welding
108 hours
- Students will receive training at the basic level for Metal Inert Gas (GMAW/MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), and Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW) welding. Basic Welding students will be taught in the classroom through lecture, video, and workbooks and in the welding lab with visual demonstrations and hands-on practice. Students will also gain a deeper understanding of power sources, polarity, basic tolerances, distortion control and electrode classifications, weld size & profile, metal transfer and shielding gasses, advantages and disadvantages of constant voltage power sources, destructive and non-destructive testing methods, setup, shutdown, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Completion of the Basic Welding program or an equivalent will be required in order to take the Advanced Welding program. Students will learn advanced welding techniques in GTAW and SMAW. Students will learn about defects and discontinuities, the weldability of carbon steel, metallurgical makeup of carbon and stainless steels, the weldability of aluminum, the advantages/disadvantages/uses of A/C polarity, HAZ, rates of thermal conductivity and rates of thermal expansion. An American Welding Society qualification test is offered at an additional cost.
