Brenda attended Ohio University and Wright State University, earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing. She has been a Registered Nurse since 2013 and a primary care Family Nurse Practitioner since 2019. Brenda is employed at Premier Physicians Network as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
How did MCJVS/MVCTC help you to be successful? "When I attended MVCTC, I had no intention of being a nurse, although I knew I wanted to be in healthcare. After completing two years in the Allied Health Tech Prep Program in 2004, I decided to get married right out of high school and follow my now-ex when he joined the military. I spent five years following his career while working as a pharmacy technician. We had a child, and my son's delivery inspired me to pursue a degree in nursing. After my ex and I divorced, it was my time to fulfill my dream to become a registered nurse finally. I was accepted into Wright State University. Even though it had been five years since I graduated MVCTC, the principles, and knowledge I learned while a high school student were still there to help me succeed in college. It was like learning to ride a bike again. The concepts from anatomy and physiology, basic nursing skills, and medical terminology came flooding back to me while in the nursing program at Wright State. I was a single parent during most of my undergraduate education. I graduated Magna Cum Lade from Wright State University in 2013 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing. Before my graduation from Wright State, I knew that I would continue my education to become an advanced practice nurse. I spent seven years as a registered nurse in high-risk obstetrics at a local health system. I was very involved in multiple roles as a nurse, including alternate team leader, preceptor, and a member of several committees. I applied to Ohio University's Master of Science Family Nurse Practitioner program three years after becoming an RN. I completed my graduate education while working full-time on the night shift as an RN. I graduated with my master's degree from Ohio University in 2019 as a family nurse practitioner. I was named 'Most Outstanding Graduate' from all of their MSN programs that year. I currently work as a primary care provider in a family practice office through the same local health system I worked for as a nurse. I love getting to take care of patients across a lifespan. I plan to obtain my Doctorate in Nursing within the next five years. MVCTC played a large part in the success I've had in my career. I know I would not be where I am without that head-start that my vocational program gave me during my high school education."
