MVCTC Celebrates Class of 2018
Dayton, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Class of 2018 scholarship winners were announced on Friday, May 18, during the Senior Recognition Ceremony at the Wright State Nutter Center. 619 students qualified with grades and attendance to participate in the Senior Recognition Ceremony and receive their Career Passport. The Career Passport is awarded to students that successfully complete their MVCTC career program with good grades, good attendance, and the ability to demonstrate competencies in their career program. The Career Passport complements the high school diploma that is earned while at MVCTC. Students receive their high school diploma from the partner school district they attend.
In addition to Career Passports being awarded during the Senior Recognition Ceremony, several MVCTC students were announced as recipients of the 2018 MVCTC Department, Foundation, and Employee Association scholarships. The students receiving scholarships include:
- Keara Tellis, Biotechnology student from Wayne High School, recipient of $500 MVCTC Foundation Academics Department Scholarship
- Chelsea Cruze, Veterinary Science student from Eaton High School, recipient of $500 MVCTC Foundation Agriculture Department Scholarship
- Morelia Balli, Medical Office Management student from Wayne High School, recipient of $500 MVCTC Foundation Business & Information Technology Department Scholarship
- Liv Baldasare, Sports Medicine student from Tri-County North High School, recipient of $500 MVCTC Foundation Health & Consumer Sciences Department Scholarship
- Kasey Wilken, Sports Medicine student from Eaton High School, recipient of $500 MVCTC Foundation Math & Science Department Scholarship
- Summer Staiger, Graphic Commercial Art student from Valley View High School, recipient of $500 MVCTC Foundation Trade & Industry East Department Scholarship
- Brianna Fourman, Criminal Justice student from Vandalia-Butler High School, recipient of $500 MVCTC Foundation Trade & Industry South Department Scholarship
- Carter Nolte, Media and Video Production student from Valley View High School, recipient of the $500 MVCTC Employees’ Association Scholarship
- Logan Schroer, Robotics and Automation student from Valley View High School, recipient of the $500 MVCTC Employees’ Association Scholarship
- Chantel Banks, Firefighter/EMS student from Carlisle High School, recipient of a $2,000 Treva & Robert Sidle Scholarship
- Fletcher Durham, Architectural Design student from Eaton High School, recipient of a $2,000 Treva & Robert Sidle Scholarship
- Connor Howe, Allied Health Technologies student from Dixie High School, recipient of a $2,000 Treva & Robert Sidle Scholarship
- Ariel Richardson, Biotechnology student from Eaton High School, recipient of a $2,000 Treva & Robert Sidle Scholarship
- Hailey Thies, Graphic Commercial Art student from Tri-County North High School, recipient of a $2,000 Treva & Robert Sidle Scholarship
- Emma Tobias, Dental Assistant student from Tri-County North High School, recipient of the $1,000 MVCTC Superintendent Scholarship
The 2018 MVCTC Valedictorians are as follows:
- Liv Baldasare, Sports Medicine/Tri-County North
Baldasare plans to attend Wright State University majoring in Biology with plans to become a Physician’s Assistant. She is the daughter of the late Darren Baldasare and Dawn Baldasare of Lewisburg.
- Morelia Balli, Medical Office Management/Wayne
Balli plans to attend Wright State University in the fall with the goal of becoming a chiropractor. Balli is the daughter of Marcos and Maribel Balli of Huber Heights.
- Fletcher Durham, Architectural Design/Eaton
Durham was hired in 2017 at Fullmer’s Landscaping as part of the MVCTC Apprenticeship Program. He will continue his work with Fullmer’s after graduation, making a career as an Assistant Landscape Designer. He is the son of Phillip and Nancy Durham of Eaton.
- Rylee Emig, Graphic Commercial Photography/Twin Valley South
Emig plans to spend next fall volunteering in Kentucky. She is the daughter of Scott and Carol Emig of Lewisburg.
- Connor Howe, Allied Health/Dixie
Howe will be attending Wright State University in the fall to major in nursing. He is the son of Vanessa Bailey of Eaton and Terry Howe of New Lebanon.
- Audra Kirchhofer, Dental Assistant/Dixie
Kirchhofer plans to pursue a dental hygiene degree at Sinclair Community College. She is the daughter of Mark and Beverly Kirchhofer of New Lebanon.
- Alyssa Maul, Graphic Commercial Art/Eaton
Maul plans to pursue a degree in Advertising and Graphic Design at the Columbus College of Art & Design. She is the daughter of Michelle Maul of Eaton.
- Summer Staiger, Graphic Commercial Art/Valley View
Staiger plans on attending Bowling Green State University and majoring in Graphic Design. She is the daughter of Kurt and Patricia Staiger of Germantown.
- Hailey Thies, Graphic Commercial Art/ Tri-County North
Thies will be attending Miami University to study Communication Design. She is the daughter of Ted and April Thies of Lewisburg.
- Emma Tobias, Dental Assistant/Tri-County North
Tobias will attend East Tennessee State University (ETSU) majoring in Dental Hygiene. She is the daughter of Joe and Trisha Tobias of Eaton.
MVCTC 2018 Salutatorian
- SaraRae Hallstein, Allied Health/National Trial
Hallstein plans on attending Western Governors University to become a Special Education teacher. She is the daughter of Duane and Sara Hallstein of Brookville.
In total, over $4 million worth of scholarships were earned by the MVCTC Class of 2018. This includes 730 students earning a $3,000 Tech Prep Scholarship to Sinclair Community College, totaling over $2.19 million.
