Three Sports Management and Marketing Students competed in a national social media simulation put on through our student organization BPA. Ayronia Colvin (Northridge), Madison Conry (Brookville), and Jordan Mastroianni (Vandalia) placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in this national competition. Each student will receive a cash prize and be recognized at nationals for finishing in the top three of this competition.
During the past two years, Sports Management and Marketing students have placed 2nd and 3rd in 2018, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in 2019. With more students finishing in the top 10, it is safe to say the students in Sports Management and Marketing at Miami Valley Career Technology Center have performed well in the competition. Students have been able to take what they learned from the curriculum in the classroom and apply it in a real-world simulation.
The social media competition is run as a mock simulation where students assume a role with a fictitious global bag company. They test their social media marketing skills by managing a $50,000 budget in simulated ad dollars. The students create ad posts on social platforms many current businesses use today. The students used Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest. The students created posts and then analyzed their analytics each round to review positive and negative aspects. Based on the analytics the students would determine their ad posting strategy.
