COVID-19 Notification

09/08/2020

MVCTC remains committed to communicating important information to you in a timely manner during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic that is impacting all of us.

With that said, MVCTC has received notice that two high school students, who attend on-campus programs, and one employee have recently tested positive for COVID-19. To date, all of the current and previous positive COVID-19 cases were contracted off-campus through community spread. There was one close contact to report relating to these cases. There have been zero cases that are connected to any type of virus transmission while staff or students have been on campus. The district has been communicating with Public Health - Dayton and Montgomery County and continues to follow their protocols and guidance.

While we must protect the privacy of the individuals involved, we believe it is best to communicate transparently with you so you can make well-informed decisions for your family. At this time, the individuals are in isolation and will remain so until they have been cleared by health officials. These cases represent the only current active staff confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 connected to the Miami Valley Career Technology Center. There have been six past
cases that are no longer active. You may access the district’s COVID-19 dashboard at any time to see our current number of active and past COVID-19 cases. http://www.mvctc.com/news/article/1652

As more cases are being confirmed across the state, it is important to remain vigilant. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following best practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid close contact with those who are sick.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve.
  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.
  • Practice social distancing, leaving at least six feet between you and other people.
  • When you are unable to practice social distancing in a public setting, wear a cloth mask.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, new onset severe headache, sore throat and loss of taste or smell. If you or any member of your family exhibit these symptoms, you are encouraged to contact your medical provider for advice immediately. Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after exposure.

The district will continue to update you as necessary through email and on the district’s website, www.mvctc.com, of any other positive COVID-19 cases that are brought to our attention that involve staff or students who have been on campus. To be respectful of your time, the district will only use a SchoolMessenger call if there is a significant increase in cases or a similar type situation which requires immediate awareness. Please ensure MVCTC has your most current contact information on file. If you need to update your contact information, please call (937) 854-6256.

In closing, please know that student and staff safety is our priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Dr. Nick Weldy
MVCTC Superintendent
