MVCTC Early Childhood Education Students Earn Certification

01/08/2021

Englewood, Ohio: Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Early Childhood Education program teaches students about children from birth to school age. In this program, students develop lesson plans and incorporate these for the MVCTC Preschool and field sites. They will gain an understanding of how children develop and how to integrate the Ohio Department of Education preschool standards into their curriculum. This program will give the students the knowledge and foundation to become teachers in the Early Childhood field.

Students in the Early Childhood Education program will work in child care programs and earn their Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate. Many students go on to Sinclair Community College and earn their Associate's Degree and work as an early childhood educator. Others choose to complete a four-year degree in education, become nannies, teachers in daycare centers, teachers' aides, or home daycare providers.

The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential™ is the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education (ECE) and is a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement in ECE. The CDA is based on a core set of competency standards, which guide early care professionals to become qualified teachers of young children. The Council works to ensure that the nationally-transferable CDA is a credible and valid credential, recognized by the profession as a vital part of professional development.

CDAs have knowledge of how to put the CDA Competency Standards into practice and understanding of why those standards help children move with success from one developmental stage to another. CDAs know how to nurture the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social development of children.

Earning the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential™ has many advantages, including exposure to early childhood educators' larger community. Over 800,000 CDA credentials have been issued to date!
