Englewood, Ohio – The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Class of 2021 Graphic Commercial Art student Lauren Adams was recently announced as a winner of the National Taco Bell Foundation Live Màs Scholarship. Lauren won the $5,000 scholarship by submitting a two-minute video showing something she is passionate about doing in the future. She was selected as the winner out of 195 national applicants.
Lauren shared, “It was a video about what you want to do in the future and why you are passionate about these plans. I made an animation about being an artist and how it can make a positive impact on the world.”
James Mayer (franchise owner) presented her check with Eaton Store Manager Britni Day on Thursday, May 13. The Taco Bell staff would like to encourage more student applicants as this is an annual scholarship award available to high school seniors in college students.

While attending MVCTC, Lauren has served as a local SkillsUSA Officer, an Ohio SkillsUSA Officer, a SkillsUSA Contest Winner, a National SkillsUSA contest competitor, and an MVCTC Student Ambassador. She connected with a design firm in Columbus thanks to her SkillsUSA state officer position and has a mentorship through Burgie MediaFusion. She had on-the-job training in graphic design programs that they use. Lauren also has been doing freelance work for Dynamite Designs.
Lauren stated, “I’ve had a wonderful experience at MVCTC! This school has provided many opportunities to grow as an individual. Through my program, I learned many essential skills that will be important in the workforce. MVCTC has also given me a chance to express my voice and introduced me to SkillsUSA, a Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO). Through SkillsUSA, I was able to campaign as a Southwest Regional Officer, practice public speaking, work with other CTSO members across Ohio, and speak to U.S. Representatives in Washington, D.C., about the importance of career technical education. I served as the SkillsUSA Ohio State President and a National Competitor in the SkillsUSA Advertising Design competition. Through MVCTC and SkillsUSA, I have learned the importance of hands-on technical skills, personal skills, workplace skills, and how they are critical in a work environment. Overall, I feel more prepared for the future because of my experience at MVCTC.”
After graduation, Lauren plans to attend Ohio University for Publication Design in the VisCom program and will continue taking additional classes over the summer at Sinclair Community College.
