Ohio Department of Health COVID-19 Guidance as of February 2, 2022
The Ohio Department of Health announced changes last week to their COVID-19 guidance for schools. MVCTC will implement these changes beginning on Monday, February, 7 which allows enough time for the district to effectively communicate with all of our stakeholders.
These changes included schools discontinuing universal contact tracing, case investigation and exposure notification. Schools will now be expected to assist the health department in these areas if there is an outbreak or cluster of positive cases. They are shifting their focus away from schools to high-risk settings, such as shelters, correctional facilities, and nursing homes. Below are some protocols that will stay in place or be our practice moving forward:
- We will continue to report the number of positive cases to the health department on a weekly basis.
- We will continue to update the number of positive cases on our website dashboard on a weekly basis.
- Students who are COVID-19 positive will continue to be out of school for five days and may return six days after their symptoms began if fever free and showing improved symptoms. Masks will be required through day ten and the district needs parents to ensure that their child is following the Ohio Department of Health masking guidance.
- Students who have been exposed to a positive case out of school (in the home or other-wise), but are asymptomatic may attend school while wearing a mask for ten days. If the student remains asymptomatic and tests negative in days 5-7, they may discontinue wearing the mask.
- Parents who have a student that has been exposed to a positive case in the home should continue to notify the school nurse.
- The school will no longer do universal contact tracing of individual positive students. In the event an outbreak or cluster of positive cases develops the school will notify the parents of impacted students.
We continue to rely on you to keep your child home when he/she is sick and ensure that your child is masked when required to do so. While our positive COVID-19 cases have dropped dramatically, we recognize it is still an evolving situation needing our attention. Our staff has been dedicated this year to keeping our schools open and your children learning in optimal conditions.
