Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Senior HOSA Chapter hosted its first meeting of the school year with students from Biotechnology, Dental Assisting, Health Occupations, Medical Lab Assisting, Pre-Nursing, and Sports Medicine programs present.
Led by a brand-new officer team consisting of returning and first-year officers, members recited the HOSA Creed and were introduced to HOSA Values. Additionally, the treasurer reported on this year’s expenditures.
The 2022-2023 HOSA Senior Officer Team:
MVCTC HOSA Advisors are Paula Wathen and Jennifer Foudray.
A recap of the HOSA International Leadership Conference was also given, highlighting students’ amazing experiences and providing a glimpse at the opportunities that HOSA provides.
A final topic discussed by the officers and advisors was HOSA Fridays. Because MVCTC’s HOSA Chapter continually seeks to grow and improve itself, this year, all members will select a competitive event and spend forty-five minutes every Friday in a specific room, training and practicing for their competitive event. The officer teams, lab instructors, and students are excited to see this hard work pay off when students compete.
After hearing from various officers, students had the opportunity to listen to MVCTC counselor Miss Newman and MVCTC therapist Jane discuss the importance of mental health and well-being in honor of Suicide Prevention Month. First, Miss Newman discussed that mental health issues could impact anyone and emphasized the importance of utilizing one’s support system. Then, Jane talked about specific changes that students can implement in their lives that will benefit their mental well-being. For example, she elaborated on the value of exercise, meditation, a nutritious diet, and self-care. Together, the guest speakers provided encouragement that resonated with the students and made a positive impact.
Overall, the Senior HOSA Chapter is off to a great start, and students are excited to see what HOSA has in store for their last year of high school.
