Englewood, Ohio- On November 14, 2023, four Veterinary Science juniors from Dr. Nealigh and Mrs. Carmen's lab participated in the Ohio FFA Animal Behavior Career Development Event (CDE) contest at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. The Animal Behavior & Welfare CDE aims to stimulate student interest and promote education in the basics of understanding animals' evolutionary biology, their biological needs, and indicators of differing levels of welfare and how to evaluate different facilities, husbandry and management holistically. In addition, this CDE will provide recognition for those who have demonstrated skills and competencies due to animal behavior & welfare instruction. This contest is aligned with the Agriculture and Environmental Systems Career Field Pathways for Animal Science and Management.

The students who participated were

  • Maya Beam (Tipp City) placed first overall
  • Caleb Eversole (Valley View) placed second overall
  • Elliana Larkins (Bethel) placed sixth

As a team, they scored fourth out of ten teams.

Congratulations to those who participated.
