MVCTC Celebrates Completion of Construction Project

Englewood, Ohio - May 10, 2024—The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) proudly announces the completion of its historic construction project, culminating in a week-long celebration honoring its dedicated staff, students, and the newly remodeled and expanded building. The highlight of the week was the Building Dedication and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony held on Friday, May 10, 2024, exactly five years from the groundbreaking ceremony.

Throughout the week, the MVCTC came together to commemorate this significant milestone with a series of engaging activities and events, including:

  • Tuesday, 5/7: Celebration cookies for students served at all lunches.
  • Wednesday, 5/8: Staff Appreciation event acknowledging the hard work and dedication of MVCTC's exceptional staff members.
  • Friday, 5/10: The pinnacle of the week-long celebration, featuring the Building Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Staff and students gathered for a 'mock' ribbon-cutting photo opportunity. 

The Building Dedication Ceremony was a momentous occasion, graced by the presence of esteemed guest speakers. These included Dr. Gerry Espeleta (MVCTC Board of Education President), Dr. Nick Weldy (MVCTC Superintendent), Mr. Frank LaRose (Ohio Secretary of State), Mrs. Melanie Drerup (Chief of Planning Ohio Facilities Construction Commision and MVCTC Alumna), Mrs. Cathy McGrail (Mayor City of Englewood), Mr. Eric Baltzell (CEO Garmann Miller), and Mrs. Marissa Stollings (Project Manager Gilbane Building Company). 

Dr. Weldy thanked the entire MVCTC family for their collective efforts in making this momentous occasion a reality. "I am proud to be a part of such an amazing team of professionals," Dr. Weldy remarked.

Key Highlights of the Project

  • Approximately 580,000 square feet of new and renovated space under one roof.
  • Enhanced Safety Measures: Prioritizing the well-being of students and staff, MVCTC has implemented enhanced safety protocols throughout the campus.
  • Increased Capacity: The revamped facilities are equipped to accommodate a larger student population, furthering MVCTC's commitment to serving the community's educational needs.
  • Cutting-edge Programs: MVCTC introduces three new career-technical programs: Drones & GIS Technologies, Pre-Engineering, and Pre-Law & Legal Studies, designed to prepare students for the evolving demands of the workforce.
  • Expansion of Existing Programs: Responding to growing demand, existing programs such as Cosmetology and Veterinary Science have been expanded and enhanced.
  • The addition of sophomore programming on campus. Career Connections for Sophomores is a groundbreaking initiative offering sophomore students the opportunity to explore various career areas while earning state-recognized credentials. Upon completion, participants become eligible for reserved seats in any of MVCTC’s 43 career-technical programs as juniors and seniors.
