10/02/2024

Englewood, OH – October 2, 2024—Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) is proud to announce that Donita Massing, a Digital Design instructor, has been named one of the 50 national finalists for the prestigious VOYA Unsung Heroes Award. Massing was awarded a $2,000 grant for her innovative teaching idea, "Elevating Student Success in Digital Cinema," which will enhance her students' hands-on learning experience.

Massing's project focuses on integrating storytelling with science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) objectives through digital cinema. Her idea aims to equip MVCTC students with critical video production skills, preparing them for the rapidly growing video storytelling industry. According to Ohio Means Jobs, the video production industry is expected to grow by 15.3% over the next decade, demonstrating the increasing demand for professionals in this field.

The grant will be used to purchase advanced video equipment, including 4K cameras, microphones, gimbals, tripods, and more. This will enable students to explore lighting theory, design, psychology, and cognitive theory as they create compelling visual stories. By merging technical skills with creative expression, Massing's students will have the opportunity to produce meaningful projects that benefit both the school district and the wider community.

The VOYA Unsung Heroes Award is a national grant program that recognizes educators who employ innovative methods and creative thinking to positively impact their students' learning experiences. MVCTC is proud of Donita Massing's commitment to fostering excellence in education and congratulates her on this achievement.
