MVCTC SkillsUSA Chapters 1 and 4 Hold Successful September Meeting

10/18/2024

The SkillsUSA Chapters 1 and 4 at MVCTC kicked off the school year with a productive and engaging meeting in September. The event was led by the chapter officers:

President - Anna Thomas (Cosmetology/ Vandalia-Butler)

Vice President - Izzy Barnes (Cosmetology/ Carlisle)

Senior Officers - Gideon Blevins (Electrical Trades/ Brookville), Navaeh Miller (Cosmetology/ Carlisle), Taylan Horrigan (Electrical Trades/ Preble Shawnee), Lilly Mihelcic (HVAC/ Bethel), Cora Middleton (Cosmetology/ Miamisburg), Laci Jerome (Cosmetology/ Brookville), and Aubie Wilson (Cosmetology/ National Trail).

These student leaders began the meeting with the SkillsUSA opening ceremony and shared how SkillsUSA has impacted their educational journey while introducing themselves by grade and program.

Involving the next generation of leaders, junior officers were also introduced, highlighting SkillsUSA's focus on leadership development and collaboration among students across different grade levels. Several SkillsUSA videos were shown to keep the energy high, reinforcing the organization's values and mission.

A highlight of the meeting was the guest speaker, Bree Alberson, a former state officer of SkillsUSA. Bree shared her experiences and the opportunities that SkillsUSA opened up for her, inspiring students to take advantage of the organization's leadership and career-building benefits.

The meeting concluded with a fun and competitive game of rock-paper-scissors, followed by the official closing ceremony. The chapters also announced their involvement in the annual "Soctober" sock drive, a friendly competition among MVCTC’s CTSOs (Career-Technical Student Organizations). All students are encouraged to donate socks during October, with the winning CTSO earning a cookie party as a reward.

Special thanks were extended to Mrs. Brewer, Mr. Kauffman, and Mr. Kramer, advisors for SkillsUSA Chapters 1 and 4, for their continued support and guidance in organizing a successful event.
