Congrats to the 40 MVCTC SkillsUSA Students that qualified for State

Englewood, Ohio -- Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) SkillsUSA students performed well, with 40 students qualifying for the state competition. In the past, MVCTC students have excelled at SkillsUSA competitions often making it past the regional and state levels to either win or place in the top three at the national competition. The national competition, held in the summer, brings together more than 14,000 students, teachers, education leaders, and representatives from more than 1,100 national corporations, trade associations, businesses, and labor unions from across the United States.

The area students qualifying for the State SkillsUSA Competition are:

  • Chris Buck (Air Force ROTC student from Miamisburg) won a Gold Medal in the Customer Service Competition.
  • Sierra Caldwell (Criminal Justice student form Northridge) won a Silver Medal in the Criminal Justice Competition.
  • Trent Church (Electrical Trades student from Miami East) won a Gold Medal in the Related Technical Math Competition.
  • Morgan Ellis (Dental Assistant student from Arcanum) won a Gold Medal in the Job Skills Demo Open Competition.
  • Sydney Evans (Graphic Commercial Art student from Northmont) won a Silver Medal in the Extemporaneous Speech Competition.
  • Jennifer Hinton (Cosmetology student from Brookville) won a Gold Medal in the Esthetics Competition.
  • Chelsea Hoskins (Cosmetology student from Northmont) won a Silver Medal in the Job Skill Demo A Competition.
  • Rayan Huffman (Graphic Commercial Art student from Dixie) won a Gold Medal in the Prepared Speech Competition.
  • Jesse Ly (Graphic Commercial Photography student from Vandalia) won a Gold Medal in the Photography Competition.
  • Megan Miller (Graphic Commercial Art student from Wayne) won a Gold Medal in the Advertising Design Competition.
  • Avonna Sibley (Graphic Commercial Art student from Northmont) won a Bronze Medal in the Customer Service Competition.
  • Amanda Garrett (Graphic Commercial Art student from Wayne) won a Silver Medal in the Advertising Design Competition.
  • The Crime Scene Investigation Team of Criminal Justice students, Kasha McCoy (National Trail); Branden Moody (Tipp City); and Kristen Nixon (Mississinawa Valley) placed 1st winning a Gold medal.
  • The Opening and Closing Senior Dental Assistant Team of Christina Arnett (Preble Shawnee); Yulissa Enciso (Wayne); Sophia Jones (Northmont); Madison Linder (Northmont); Rachel Marker (Tri-Village); Sabrina Rawlins (Miamisburg); and Megan Ticher (Tri-County North) placed 1st winning a Gold Medal.
  • The Opeing and Closing Junior Dental Assistant Team of Bayley Boston (Brookville); Alicia Jackson (Vanadalia); Lauren Lee (Tri-County North); Haley Robinson (Franklin Monroe); Sierra Taylor (Vandalia); Taylor Tucker (Tri-County North); and Aubrey Zunk-Sullivan (Miamisburg) placed 2nd winning a Silver medal.
  • The Team Works Team of Cameron Bayer (Electrical Trades student from Tri-County North); Luke Stoner (Construction Carpentry student form Twin Valley South); Arie Thumser (Construction Carpentry student from Bethel); and Seth Wright (HVAC student from Eaton) placed 2nd  winning a Silver Medal.
  • The Team Works Team of Landon Flora (Electrical Trades student from Franklin Monroe); Christopher Gilroy (Construction Carpentry student from Ansonia); Benjamin Deaton (Electrical Trades student form Dixie); and Matthew Mowen (Construction Carpentry student from Eaton) placed 3rd winning a Bronze Medal.
  • The Welding Fabrication Team of Aaron Kaiser (Versailles); Shawn Riley (Brookville); and Ian Turner (Tipp City) placed 2nd winning a Silver Medal.

These 40 MVCTC students will compete at the Ohio SkillsUSA Competition scheduled for April 14-15, 2015, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
