MVCTC Diesel Power Technology Students Finish 3rd in State FFA Contest

Wooster, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Diesel Power Technology students competed in the FFA State Outdoor Power and Equipment Career Development Event (CDE) at The Ohio State University ATI campus in Wooster, Ohio on April 28, 2015. The team of senior, Alex McMonigle (Valley View) and juniors, Walker James (Vandalia-Butler) and Austin Campbell (Franklin Monroe) placed 3rd in the state.  The MVCTC Team had won the District FFA Contest to qualify to compete at the State Contest. Walker James finished 6th in the state as an individual.

 

The Outdoor Power and Equipment CDE is set-up with 10-15 stations, that test the students are the skills and troubleshooting ability.  The team has 10-minutes at each station to demonstrate skills on outdoor power equipment.  The contest also includes a 20 question general knowledge written test.

 

According to the Ohio FFA website, “Agricultural Education CDE’s are educational activities that are organized and conducted by the Ohio Department of Education, Office of Career-Technical Education, Agricultural Education. They are designed to assess student competence in business and industry verified occupational skills, as detailed in the Agricultural and Environmental Content Standards. CDEs are a motivating force that stimulates occupational interests in and personal development of high school students enrolled in school-based agricultural education programs.”
