04/07/2016

Englewood, Ohio – Savannah Benge is a senior in the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Health Careers Academy from Eaton. Savannah decided to attend the MVCTC Health Careers Academy to get a head-start on her chosen career path in nursing.  The Health Careers Academy has allowed Savannah to earn her State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification while still in high school. She has also earned certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Fire Safety.

Savannah said about her MVCTC experience, “My experience at MVCTC has been the best. I have succeeded so much more coming here. I got a head start in my nursing career and plan on furthering my education in nursing. MVCTC has prepared me for college and the workforce. When I first came to MVCTC, I thought I wouldn't have any friends because I was shy and backward but with the teachers and the other students, I have met new people who work just as hard as I do. I do not regret my choice of coming here at all.”

While attending MVCTC Savannah not only earned industry certifications, she also was inducted into the MVCTC National Technical Honor Society  (NTHS) earning a $500 scholarship and she will earn the Tech Prep Scholarship of $3,000 to Sinclair Community College after completing her program.

After graduating MVCTC, Savannah plans to continue working at Vancrest Health Care Center as an STNA in Eaton and using the Tech Prep Scholarship to continue studying nursing at Sinclair.  She plans to pursue becoming an RN and eventually working in Orthopedic medicine or in Obstetrics.  Savannah shared, “My career goal in five years is to be in a hospital working in labor and delivery while continuing my education at Kettering College.”

Savannah is the daughter of Mike and Marissa Benge of Eaton.

When asked her favorite part of attending MVCTC, Savannah shared, “MVCTC has prepared me for future by giving me the chance to get certified as an STNA, CPR, first aid, and fire safety. It taught me the basics of nursing and what to expect uniform and education wise.”

For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio.  MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
