BPA National Conference 2016 Results
Boston, MA –– Top students from Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2016 National Leadership Conference, in Boston, MA, May 5-9, 2016. MVCTC students, Tyler Black (Valley View-MVCTC Business Academy), Steven Davis (Computer Network Engineering/West Carrollton), Lucas Gauldin (Game Programming & Web Applications/Franklin Monroe), Kenzi Gordon (Medical Office Management/Valley View), Aaron Henderson (Game Programming & Web Applications/West Carrollton), Brandon Landis (Business Ownership/West Carrollton), Austin Pearce (Computer Network Engineering/Northmont), and DeJour Stevens-Wilson (GIS & Technical Intelligence/Trotwood) joined over 5,000 other conference delegates from across the nation to participate in the national level business skills competitions, workshops, general sessions, and the national officer candidate campaigns and elections.
- Austin Pearce placed in the Top 10 in the nation in the Systems Administration using CISCO contest and won first place in the national Information Technology Concepts Open Event Contest
- Steven Davis placed in the Top 10 in the nation in the Systems Administration using CISCO contest
- Kenzi Gordon placed in the Top 10 in the nation in the Medical Office Procedures contest
- DeJour Stevens-Wilson placed in the Top 10 in the nation in the Database Applications contests
- Lucas Gauldin placed in the Top 10 in the nation in the Computer Programming Concepts Open Event Contest
- Tyler Black, a Business Academy student at the Valley View-MVCTC satellite program, won 1st Place in the 2016 BPA “How the Market Works” National Investment Challenge. The simulated trading contest allowed students to invest $100,000 in US stocks, ETFs, or mutual funds, and they had from January through March to build their investment portfolios. At the close of the contest, Tyler’s returns were in the top 10 of approximately 500 competitors, earning him the opportunity to compete in Boston for 1st place, nationally. On May 6, Tyler presented his strategies to the panel of financial executives. Tyler’s strategies and presentation earned him the 1st place victory in this competitive and strategic event. He received the national title and $500.00 check.
BPA is a national student organization for high school, college, and middle school students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. BPA acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business and industry. BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio. MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
